Today, I opened my eyes to a new sight;
Strange, silver-blue eyes that I never paid much attention to.
But, as I passed by my reflection,
The girl staring back at me had something to say.
Those eyes bore into me
Shook me
Flashed with revelation
And put me in my place.

Today, I stood on new legs;
Sturdy, sure legs—different from the ones I had the day before.
And as I took a few steps forward,
I saw that I wasn’t shaking as I have in the past.
I looked back at my path
Stared
And realized
That I had left more than just footprints.

Today, my heart felt a new gratitude;
A gratefulness that swelled within me and filled me.
It made me count my blessings,
And smile at all the friendships I hold.
All of the people that love me
That care
It is them
They are the ones who inspire me.

Today, I am instilled with confidence;
I don’t feel ugly, useless, or utterly lost.
I know now I’m meant for something,
I know I was put here for a reason.
I am here to spread love
I am here to spread kindness
I am here to spread acceptance
I am here to spread hope.
